I build a room 10.5 by 11 connected to my garage , quite cozy and comfortable, woodworking power tools are in the garage. I am not sure what took me so long to get this but it sure is nice bliss and quiet I might add. I bought it off of the WEN website for $154 , free shipping with no taxes. [:Y:]

Does it beep?

Seems like a silly question, but I have one that beeps and one that don't, and I really like the beep so you can tell if it's picked up on its orders or not..l

I have the same unit with a different name acquired from Busy Bee and it is one of the best purchases I have made for shop comfort.

I have the Jet, buy a lots of filters from some "filters are us" online and end up changing the outer filter about once a week. Inside gets cleaned every other week.

I am envious  - my primary source of dust control is my shop vac, mask, and an opened garage door. Try to do most of my sanding out of doors. My pool table is my clean room where I do most of gluing and assembly. Fortunately, my wife understands or at least tolerates my obsession. Maybe some day.

Having an understanding spouse is worth more than any tool that money can buy!

How noisy is it?
Anything that looks promising usually requires a noisy blower/fan to move enough air through the filter. I wear ear-muffs whenever the shop-vac or router is running.

Does that really help on all the invisible dust that seems to settle on every square inch of the shop? I have this problem...

What micron level do the filters remove?
What is the cost of the filters?
Do you stand on a ladder to change the filters?

Blower motors and squirrel cage blowers on that type of dust collector are of the same type found on an AC furnace, just a little louder as it's not in a closet.
Routers and shop vac turbine motors on the other hand are extremely loud compared to this collector.

5 micron outer and 1 micron inner, filters are $10 a piece on the website, this is in my work room which is a bedroom so the unit hangs about 8 to 10 inches above my head so access to filters is easy, there appears to be several of these being sold under different names, shop fox and grizzly look identical, so I am sure there are other sources of filters, one caveat is that some list a 1/8 hp motor this one lists a 1/6 hp motor but dimensions look to be the same....probably same chinese factory kicking these out.. duh , I just posted it 'cause I thought it was a good deal for a small shop, Amazon lists the same thing for $157 and some of the others go as high as $300 wow7-eyes , I always check tool websites and Wen offered free shipping, put in order on monday got it on friday, can't beat that.

Nice shop!

I have two of these in my shop and I think they really help with the fine dust. I also have dust collection to my power tools. Whenever I use the power tools I crank these on the highest setting along with the dust collector, and I also crank up the floor air purifier. When the Dylos monitor drops below 500 I turn everything off. I have very little dust in my shop. The dust collector gets 95% but the filters and purifier get the fine stuff.

Since the inner filter is expensive and hard to find, I ended up taking it out and just using a finer outer filter. Seems to work fine.

Got the same one with a different sticker on it, and love it! Didn't realize how much dust was lingering until I ran that and saw the white filter turn dark. Ugh! Hope my lungs don't look the same way inside!

This one, local to me, has a 1/5 hp motor, but is a bit more $'s. http://www.busybeetools.com/products/DE ... E-CSA.html
They used to sell a smaller one, as well.

I have heard they work as well or better if mounted down nearer the floor. Anyone ever try that?

Does it run on a 110v line plugged right into the wall?

Is it the kind of thing you can just run at night so as not to hear it and or in my case not to have to use a 110v line?

Barry they work fine on the floor. Maybe better. The best scenerio is to have it between the dust generator and your lungs.

It is probably worth repeating that these are not a substitute for point source dust extraction.

No they are not. They are meant to help catch what point source extraction can't. Wynnenvironmental.com makes even better filters...
